2B Copper Degasser :

A briquette used for the removal of hydrogen from copper and copper base alloys.

General Description:

Logas comprises a granual material strongly bonded and formed into a weighed unit with high surface area to volume ratio to ensure maximum contact area with liquid metal.
Logas is used for degassing of molten copper and copper based alloys. In copper and copper base alloys, dissolved hydrogen and cuprous oxide combine to form water vapor by steam reaction. The solubility of hydrogen in copper and its alloy melts reduces as the temperature falls until the gas attains the solid solubility. The hydrogen which is expelled from solution tends to combine with cuprous oxide levels are very low after deoxidation, hydrogen may still be problematic and it is preferable to reduce it to negligible proportions.

The easiest and most effective way of doing this is to bubble through the melt a stream of hydrogen scavenging gas which does not react with the alloy treated. Logas units comprise a mixture of chemicals which, on contact with the molten metal, decompose to give a continous steady stream of non-reactive gas. Since Logas is very carefully dried and packed, the gas bubbles contain very little hydrogen and are able to flush out that gas and carry it to the surface where it is lost to atmosphere. cot Porosity Meter is easy to use and fast result. It is best applied to test the hydrogen before each cast, especially for cast the alloy ingot.

Casting of aluminium, manganese and silicon bronze is very difficult because of those alloying elements great affinity for oxygen which during melting results in the formation of large amounts of oxide in the form of heavy drosses. These oxides are insoluble and if allowed to remain in the melt they tend to form upon solidification of the metal, a fine film at the grain boundaries when considerably weakens the structure of the alloy and the casting. Furthermore the natural and successful feeding of the casting is adversely affected by the oxides settling out in fine feeding channels restricting the flow of feed metal. The oxide formation is also the cause of the heavy build up which occurs or the crucible and furnace walls and therefore steps to cattails this build up essential.

In crucible melting 0.5% is added about 5 minutes before deoxidising the melt. Before pouring, the fluid slag formed is skimmed off, thickening it with dry silica sand if necessary..

In Tilting, rotary or reverbratory furnaces, 0.5% of Scot- Plumbral flux is added when the charge begins to melt. A further 0.5% is placed at the bottom of the preheat ladle, along with deoxidants, and the metal tapped onto them. Before poring the slag may be thickened with a coagulant to form a crust and the metal poured from beneath it.

Application Instructions for use :

Adjust the temperature of molten aluminum between 730-770

Skim off the dross on the surface of molten aluminium

Put HYSR-95Si into the melt(each time of adding should be 2% of the melt), press with a Bell, mix the melt completely. then test if the temperature between 730-770, if the temperature can match, Stir until they are melting and add 2%,repeat until they meet your requirements (can produce 20%Al-Si alloys).

If the silicon inclusion is less than 2% in the Al-Si alloys, it can be added for just one time.

The adding Silicon processing is decalescence reaction, so have to keep the temperature above 7300C.

5% Strontium + Al ALSR 5% ALLOY General Description Scot-Modalloy-Strontium stick (tablet) is an excellent modifying agent for aluminium and its alloys. It is used to refine the grains of silicon in the alloy, improve the mechanical capacity of the alloy and provide stability in re-melting. The purpose of modifying eutectic and hypoeutectic Al-Si alloys is to change the acicular form of silicon to spheroids or globular form results in improved mechanical properties.

4. Add Scot-Modalloy-Strontium at an application rate of 0.20 - 0.40 at a temperature between 700 to 750 deg C.
5. Rabble the melt to ensure homogeneity, wait for 5 to 10 min. then use.

SCOT–F-RUX is a highly sensitive, exothermic-cum-insulating antipiping compound. On contact with riser metal SCOT–F-RUX layer expands to twice its thickness so it gives excellent insulation.

RECOMMENDED USE

Suitable for hot topping of all risers above three inch diameter employed on all kinds of iron and steel castings.

PROPERTIES

1. SCOT–F-RUX ignites within 30 to 60 seconds on contact with molten metal. It is highly exothermic and it burns uniformly within a very short time.

2. SCOT–F-RUX is expandable, so it spreads well on the riser surface. The expanded layer gives highly insulating cover on theriser surface.

3. SCOT–F-RUX application rates are half that of good quality conventional exothermic anti-piping compounds.

ADVANTAGES

1. Low application rates : SCOT–F-RUX is economical because normal APC addition rate is reduced by 50%.

2. Cleaner working conditions : SCOT–F-RUX gives very little smoke and fumes.

3. Efficient : SCOT–F-RUX gives excellent insulation on the riser

surface thus feed safety margins are considerably improved.

4. Better feeding : SCOT–F-RUX prevents premature freezing of riser surface, hence atmospheric pressure can act longer to give better feeding action.

5. Riser metal savings : SCOT–F-RUX in conjunction with risering sleeves reduces riser metal requirements upto 75%
